Danguajhar Tea Garden is situated at a distance of 6 kms. from Jalpaiguri town, the District headquarters of Jalpaiguri Division in West Bengal. On the eastern side is the Teesta River and on the western side is the Karla Valley Tea Garden and the Karla River. The northern side of the garden is surrounded by a few proprietary gardens. On the southern side of the garden is the Jalpaiguri Engineering and Polytechnic College. The nearest Railwa Station is the Jalpaiguri Road Station situated 1/2 km. away from the garden and the nearest Airport is the Bagdogra Airport which is situated at a distance of 65 km. from the garden.
From the records available this garden was planted in the early 20 th centuary as Rungamali Tea Garden, later on this name was changed to Danguajhar Tea Garden which means “The Den of Bachelors”. It is also said that the residents of the garden suffered a lot from malaria and black water fever, hence the name ‘Dengu’( a disease) and ‘Jar’ (fever ) . This garden was takenover by M/s Goodricke group Ltd. In 1978 with a grant area of 940.25 hectares.
The garden has a more or less flat terrain. As many as 10-12 ‘jhoras’ (streams) pass through the sections which ultimately fall into ‘Rukruka’ and ‘Chukchuka’ riverlets. Large areas on the either side of these ‘jhoras’ are low lying and are not suitable for planting tea.
